Cholet

Le lendemain j'ai repris mon périple avec comme destination. Cholet. C'était une journée grise et pluvieuse pour un 1er juillet.

The following day I resumed my journey with Cholet as destination. It was a grey and rainy day for a July 1st.

Je suis passé devant des vergers recouvert de toiles qui s'étendaient à perte de vue, parfois des deux côtés de la route.

I passed orchards covered with canvases that stretched as far as the eye could see, sometimes on both sides of the road.

A d'autres endroits c'était des moutons que je voyais paitre dans les prés.

In other places it was sheeps that I saw grazing in the meadows.

Enfin j'arrive à Cholet au moment où le ciel commence à s'éclaircir. Mon hôtel est tout prêt du centre ville.

Finally I arrive in Cholet when the sky become to clear. My hotel is very near the city center.

L'église Notre-Dame de Cholet actuelle fut construite dans la deuxième moitié du 19ème siècle en une trentaine d'année.

The current Church of Our Lady of Cholet was built in the second half of the 19th century in about thirty years.

L'église est de style néogothique. The church is Gothic Revival style.

Cet ange représente l'évangéliste Saint-Luc. This angel represents the Evangelist St Luke.

Il tient entre ses mains un rouleau qui symbolise l'évangile qu'il a écrit. He holds in his hands a scroll that symbolizes the gospel he wrote.

Le lion symbolisant Saint-Marc tenant entre ses pattes son évangile. The lion symbolizing Saint Mark holding his gospel between his paws.

Le bœuf symbolisant Saint-Mathieu tenant son évangile entre ses sabots. The ox symbolizing St-Mathiew holding his gospel between his hooves.

Le Couronnement de la Vierge / The Crowning of the Vigin

Cette statue couronne la façade entre les deux tours. Elle représente Jésus assis devant son Père et couronnant sa Mère. Le tout entre deux anges en prière.

This statue crowns the facade between the two towers. It represents Jesus sitting in front of his Father and crowning his Mother. The whole thing between two angels in prayer.

Sainte Geneviève par ses prières désarme Attila / Saint Geneviève by his prayers disarms Attila

Ces deux statues sont l'œuvre de Hyppolyte Maindron, un sculpteur né dans le Maine-et-Loire en décembre 1801 et mort à Paris en mars 1884 à l'âge de 82 ans. Il est enterré au cimetière du Montparnasse. Une rue porte son nom dans le XIVème arrondissement de Paris. Commandée par l'Etat sous le Second Empire pour orner le péristyle du Panthéon de Paris, elles sont depuis 2010 conservées dans cette église.

These two statues are the work of Hyppolyte Maindron, a sculptor born in Maine-et-Loire in December 1801 and died in Paris in March 1884 at the age of 82. He is buried in the Montparnasse cemetery. A street bears his name in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. Commissioned by the State under the Second Empire to decorate the peristyle of the Pantheon of Paris, they have been preserved in this church since 2010.

C'est pareil pour Sainte-Geneviève qui semble implorer le ciel plus qu'Attila. Attila, lui jette un regard à la fois furieux et dubitatif. Il semble être encore un peu dans sa colère de Fléau de Dieu

It's the same for Sainte-Geneviève who seems to implore heaven more than Attila. Attila, gives her a look of anger and doubt. He seems to be still a little in his wrath of God’s Plague.
